overview

What is the Title & Description Extractor?

The YouTube Title & Description Extractor is a straightforward productivity tool that pulls the exact text metadata from any public YouTube video. While you can technically copy and paste text directly from the YouTube player page, doing so often results in messy formatting, accidentally highlighting UI elements, or dealing with the annoying "Show More" expansion button.

Our tool bypasses the frontend entirely. By querying the YouTube API, it retrieves the raw, cleanly formatted text exactly as the creator typed it. This ensures you get all the line breaks, emojis, and URLs perfectly intact without any HTML clutter from the webpage.

why use this

Why Extract Titles and Descriptions?

Whether you are a creator, a marketer, or an archivist, there are several reasons why pulling clean metadata is highly valuable:

  • SEO and Keyword Research: A video's title and the first two lines of its description are the most heavily weighted factors in YouTube's search algorithm. Extracting top-ranking videos allows you to see exactly how competitors are structuring their primary keywords. Pair this with our Tag Extractor for a complete SEO picture.
  • Grabbing Affiliate Links: Creators often bury dozens of affiliate links, product recommendations, and social media handles deep in their descriptions. Extracting the text gives you a clean list of these URLs that is much easier to click, copy, and organize.
  • Archiving and Translation: If you are backing up a channel or translating a video into another language, you need the original text. This tool provides a clean text block that can be immediately pasted into translation software or an archive document.
  • Template Creation: Finding a creator whose descriptions always look professional? Extract their description to study their formatting (where they place timestamps, how they space their social links) and create a template for your own uploads.

technical details

How YouTube Handles Text Formatting

When creators upload a video, YouTube allows up to 100 characters for the title and 5,000 characters for the description. Here is how that text behaves behind the scenes:

  • The "Above the Fold" Limit: On desktop, YouTube only displays roughly the first 150 characters of the description before forcing the user to click "Show More." These 150 characters are critical for click-through rates.
  • Hashtags: If a creator places hashtags (e.g., #tutorial) anywhere in the description, YouTube automatically pulls the first three and displays them as clickable links above the title.
  • Timestamps: Any text formatted as MM:SS (e.g., 03:45) is automatically converted into a clickable chapter link on the frontend. If a creator includes a timestamp for 00:00, it activates the Video Chapters feature in the player.

Our tool extracts the raw text exactly as it was typed, preserving all these elements so you can see the unedited blueprint of the video's metadata.

questions & answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I extract metadata from Private or Unlisted videos?

You cannot extract data from Private videos. However, if you have the direct link to an Unlisted video, our tool can successfully extract its title and description, as Unlisted videos are technically accessible via the API.

Does this tool translate the description?

No. Our tool extracts the original text exactly as the creator wrote it. If the video has community-contributed closed captions or translated titles in the YouTube player, this tool will only return the default language provided by the channel owner.

Is there a limit to how much text it can extract?

No. We extract the full payload returned by the YouTube API. The only limit is YouTube's own character limit: 100 characters for titles and 5,000 characters for descriptions.

Why does the description look like one giant block of text?

If the description appears without line breaks, it means the creator did not use paragraph breaks when uploading the video, or they used a mobile app that stripped the line breaks. We display exactly what the API provides.

Can I use this to copy other people's videos?

While you can copy the text, blindly copying another creator's exact title and description is a violation of YouTube's Community Guidelines regarding spam and deceptive practices. You should use this tool for research and inspiration, not plagiarism.

How can I download the video's thumbnail image?

To download the high-resolution cover image that accompanies the title, please use our Thumbnail Downloader tool.
