overview
What is the YouTube Video Stats Checker?
The YouTube Video Stats Checker is a live analytics tool that extracts the core engagement metrics of any public YouTube video. While YouTube displays some of this information below the video player, it often truncates large numbers (like showing "1.2M views" instead of "1,245,678") to save space on mobile devices and reduce server strain.
Our tool queries the official YouTube Data API directly using the video's unique ID. This allows us to bypass the frontend interface and retrieve the exact, unrounded, real-time integer values for views, likes, and comments, providing a much higher level of precision for researchers and marketers.
why use this
Why Check Video Statistics?
Having access to precise, live video metrics is essential for several strategic tasks on YouTube:
- Engagement Rate Analysis: The true measure of a video's success is not just its views, but its engagement rate. By getting the exact number of likes and comments and dividing them by the total views, marketers can determine if an audience is actually interacting with the content or just clicking and leaving.
- Viral Trend Tracking: When a video goes viral, YouTube's public view counter often "freezes" while its systems verify the legitimacy of the traffic. Our API tool often shows more up-to-date numbers during these high-traffic events, allowing you to track virality in closer to real-time.
- Competitor Research: If a competitor launches a new product video, you can use this tool to monitor its exact performance metrics daily, comparing their launch success against your own. You can pair this with our Tag Extractor to see how they are ranking for those views.
- Sponsorship Reporting: Influencers who need to provide exact viewing numbers to their brand sponsors at a specific deadline can use this tool to take a precise snapshot of their metrics without needing to screenshot their internal analytics dashboard.
technical details
Understanding the Metrics
Our tool returns four primary data points directly from the YouTube API. Here is how YouTube defines and calculates them:
- Exact View Count: The total number of legitimate plays the video has received. YouTube aggressively filters out bot traffic, replay loops, and spam views. The number shown here is the verified, monetizable count.
- Like Count: The total number of users who have clicked the thumbs-up button. Note that YouTube removed the public Dislike count API in 2021 to protect creators from targeted harassment campaigns; therefore, no tool can legally access or display the exact number of dislikes.
- Comment Count: The total number of comments left on the video, including replies to other comments. If a creator holds comments for review or disables them entirely, this number may be zero or lower than expected.
- Publish Date: The exact timestamp when the video was made public. This is often different from the upload date if the creator scheduled the video in advance or held it as Unlisted.
questions & answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I see the number of dislikes?
In November 2021, YouTube made dislike counts private across the platform. They simultaneously removed the `dislikeCount` field from the official YouTube Data API. Because our tool relies on official, legal API methods, we cannot display dislikes.
Does this tool work for YouTube Shorts?
Yes. YouTube Shorts are technically just standard YouTube videos with a vertical aspect ratio. You can paste a Shorts URL into the tool, and we will extract its views, likes, and comments exactly as we would for a long-form video.
How can I see the overall stats for the whole channel?
This specific tool is designed to analyze individual videos one at a time. If you want to see a creator's total lifetime views, subscriber count, or total video count, please use our Channel Stats Checker.
Why are the views here slightly different than what I see on YouTube?
YouTube employs a massive, globally distributed caching system. The view count you see on your phone might be served from a server in New York, while the API might be pulling data from a central database in California. Small discrepancies (usually within a few hundred views) are normal as the global servers sync with each other.
Can I check the stats of an Unlisted video?
Yes. Because Unlisted videos are technically public (they just don't appear in search results), you can paste an Unlisted URL into our tool and retrieve its statistics, provided you have the exact link.
Does this tool show revenue or earnings?
No. YouTube does not make monetization data (like RPM, CPM, or total earnings) public. Any tool claiming to show exact earnings for a video is simply multiplying the view count by an assumed average rate, which is notoriously inaccurate.
